It’s The Little Things

It's The Little Things

It’s the Little Things

Sometimes it’s the littlest things that end up having the biggest impact.

Take something as simple as a tissue.
Light as a feather. Practically nothing.

When you need one to blow your nose or wipe your eyes, that tiny little tissue suddenly feels very important. But accidentally leave just one in a pocket and toss it into the washing machine… and oh my word. Tissue bits everywhere. On the clothes. In the washer. On the floor. A full-blown mess… all from one little tissue.

Or how about punctuation?

Consider the sentence:
Let’s eat Grandma!

Yikes. Poor Grandma.

Now add one tiny comma:
Let’s eat, Grandma!

Whew. Same words. One small mark. Completely different meaning.

And then there’s the number zero.
Zero is technically nothing.
But add just one extra zero to a number and suddenly everything changes.

$100,000
$1,000,000

On paper, the only difference is a single zero.
In real life, that difference is $900,000.

Which reminds me of a funny (now funny) story.

My daughter’s brother-in-law was sitting at his laptop, browsing an online farm tractor auction. He found one he liked and entered a bid of $10,000. His two-year-old son was sitting next to him, watching closely. Just as he was about to hit “submit,” that little toddler finger reached over and pressed one extra key.

The zero.

The bid instantly changed from $10,000 to $100,000… and went through.

He was mortified.
Cue frantic phone calls, explanations, and a whole lot of stress trying to undo one tiny mistake.

All because of one little zero.

It’s funny how often life works that way.

The little things we overlook.
The small choices we dismiss.
The tiny moments we don’t think matter.

Until they do.

Sometimes it’s not the big, dramatic events that shape our days or our lives. It’s the quiet details. The small habits. The words we choose. The pause we take… or don’t take.

Little things can comfort us.
Little things can confuse us.
Little things can change everything.

So maybe today is a good day to pay attention to them.
The commas.
The tissues.
The zeros.
And all the small moments that quietly add up to something much bigger.

What about you?
Have you ever had a “little thing” turn into a big moment?
I’d love to hear your examples in the comments.

What In the Actual Candyland Happened?

I was standing in the Amazon aisle the other night. Not physically, of course.  But spiritually?  I was there. Clutching imaginary pearls.Squinting at my screen.Whispering to myself: “What in the actual Candyland happened?” All I wanted was a simple game for my granddaughter. She’s 2½.You know… something colorful. Innocent. Maybe teaches

ME

Happy New Year 2026

Welcome to the Year of Me.    I’ve spent most of my life taking care of everyone else.  The mother hen.  The fixer.  The helper.  The one who shows up, works harder, stays longer, and makes sure everyone else is okay.     And for a long time, I wore that role like a badge

Me in the middle

Life In The Middle

I’m a middle child, born and raised in that in-between space. The “middle” has always been my point of view—my natural lens on life. And you know what? The more I look around, the more I believe that most things in life really are better somewhere in the middle.
